9.5% to 27.2%. That's how much reported uninsurance increased among older Mexican adults. Our new study in Health Policy and Planning followed over 13,000 adults 50+ between 2018 and 2021. Out-of-pocket (OOP) costs for medicines stayed high throughout. Social Security was the only coverage type that was associated with a statistically significant decrease in OOP costs. This highlights how fragile recent health financing reforms are and the need to ensure sustained, employment-independent financial protection for Mexico's aging population.
